Biomedical Scientist | Health System Researcher | Spatial Analyst | Data Scientist | Consultant Lecturer

Felix Oluoch is a health system strengthening researcher. His work involves spatial analysis and modeling of supply and demand side health system constraints. He has successfully incorporated routine health facility data with existing GIS tools and techniques to understand, model and predict geographic disparities in maternal health . More importantly, he has over 7 years’ experience in research, consultancy and working in academia.

Felix received his PhD in Public Health from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University, Kenya. A Master’s Degree in Public Health (Health Systems Management) from Maseno University, Kenya, and a BSc Degree in Biomedical Science from Egerton University, Kenya.
Doctor of Public Health
Actively engaged in collaborative research to establish a neuroscience unit focusing on the impact of infections and pollutants on cognitive development. Currently, a research fellow on ongoing studies identifying biomarkers associated with lower cognitive scores in pediatric participants in western Kenya, and investigating the effects of prolonged asymptomatic P. falciparum parasitemia on cognitive performance in Kenyan children. Additionally, providing geospatial support for a study identifying sources of heavy metals in drinking water in western Kenya, aiming to enhance understanding of heavy metal impacts on cognition.
Provide Technical guidance on the Design, Collection, Enumeration and Mapping of Female sex Worker Hotspots via Android tablets running Open Data Kit (ODK) collect App. Afterwards the mapping data was combined together with relevant health facility and population level data for geostatistical modeling, spatial analysis and thematic mapping in order to identiy potential inclusion and exclusion areas for recruitment across all the administrative wards in both Siaya and Kisumu Counties.
Worked in close collaboration with Impact Research and development Organization (IRDO) and respective IRDO personnel, the consultancy managed to provide local logistic support by incorporating the use of geospatial data and technologies in order to select 22 administrative wards and accompanying clinics with non-overlapping catchment areas so that when we randomize wards to intervention or control we can reduce the risk of contamination across arms in Siaya County, Kenya, for the TUWASHINDI PROJECT.
Lecturer at the School of Health Sciences Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology and External Lecturer at the Kenya Medical Training College, Department of Health Records and Informatics
Oversaw implementation of project work plans and monitoring progress and provided technical guidance including the development of data collection and reporting tools within gender and child protection police desks in Siaya County.
Supported remotely and in the field the preparation and implementation of Child Macro-Level Assessment surveys across 22 sub counties within the Lake region in Kenya;
Played the role of a field manager/ Data Quality Supervisor during the successful re-education and training campaign of households who received LifeStraw® in Western Province, Kenya. Ensuring that nearly 4.5 million Kenyans have continued access to safe water for a decade.
